Singeltary Hall
The Fifth Judicial Circuit is pleased to announce the dedication of the north hall of the Lake County Courthouse as Singeltary Hall.
The hall, which contains the photos of many great Lake County citizens, now bears the name and portrait of the Honorable Circuit Judge G. Richard Singeltary.
Singeltary has been the longest sitting Judge in Lake County, with forty-eight years of public service to the County and the State of Florida.
Singeltary served Lake County as a judge for thirty-eight (38) years, and for ten (10) years prior to that served as an Assistant State Attorney. He was appointed by Governor Bob Martinez in 1990 and retired April 25, 2023, a day before his 75th birthday.
The unveiling ceremony was hosted by Lake County Administrative Judge James R. Baxley.
Singeltary was joined by family members, friends, and colleagues.
Biography of the Honorable G. Richard Singeltary
- April 26, 1948: Born in Leesburg, Florida
- 1962: Attended Leesburg High School for Freshman year.
- 1963: Enrolled in Darlington School in Rome, GA and graduated in 1966.
- 1970: Graduated from Washington and Lee University.
- 1973: Graduated from Stetson University, College of Law in St. Petersburg, FL.
- 1975: Began working as an Assistant State Attorney. His first assignment was in County Court in Bushnell.
- 1976: He was transferred to Tavares where he served as the only full-time Assistant State Attorney. At the conclusion of his employment in the State Attorney’s Office, he held the position of Deputy Assistant State Attorney for Lake County.
- 1985: Elected without opposition to the office of County Judge in Lake County, Florida.
- 1990: Appointed to office of Circuit Court Judge in Lake County, Florida by Governor Bob Martinez.
- April 25, 2023: Retired after 48 years of service to the State of Florida, with 10 years as an Assistant State Attorney, and 38 years on the bench.
Singeltary Hall is located on the first floor of the north wing area of the Lake County Courthouse.
